Our Story

Ann Arbor Birth & Family welcomes all parents and families with open arms.

We are honored to provide you with exceptional support as you navigate pregnancy, birth, and adjustment to life with your new baby.

What started out as a doula partnership between Sierra Hillebrand and Kristen Paquin, has grown into a larger, but select team of committed birth workers and perinatal providers. Our clients have expressed needs and interests beyond our initial offerings, and in the Spring of 2018, we were honored to be offered the opportunity to purchase and carry on the highly regarded and popular Pregnancy Arts childbirth education program developed by Deb Rhizal, CNM. And in 2021 the ground breaking, unbiased, research based, Evidence Based Birth® Childbirth Classes were added to our offerings.

With the addition of childbirth education, as well as comprehensive psychotherapy, and counseling services for expectant and new parents, Ann Arbor Family Doulas outgrew its name! Ann Arbor Birth & Family launched in late 2018 to continue serving our community with the high caliber of care we have established while providing a wider range of essential services to our community.

In 2021, while helping growing families thrive through a global pandemic, Ann Arbor Birth & Family went through yet another positive transformation. Sharon Quinn, the new owner, recognized that a solution to high burn out rates among birth workers, was to work as a collective rather than as an agency. We believe that when birth workers strategize to make their services more  sustainable for themselves, and pull together as a community, their longevity and resilience grows, so they can stay in the work, and gain more experience, knowledge, and skills. As collective members, we balance unity with autonomy, and support one another, so we can better support our clients.

Since 2015, our doulas have served over 300 Ann Arbor area families during some of the most vulnerable and important moments of their lives. We are grateful for each and every opportunity we’ve had to support our wonderful clients through their pregnancy, birth, and early parenting experiences.
